We live in the modern times, the elements of which evolved so fast. Education as we experienced it was supposed to be formal, face-to-face and contextual. Science, medicine and technology progressed in rapid pace just like how we upgrade handsets even before the last model was off the market. All these was disturbed by just one pandemic attack that left us all vulnerable to its effects. Consequently, these five words became by-words of our daily existence: moderate, enhanced, general, community and quarantine. Suddenly, our students cannot physically come to school, and must be subjected to choosing online learning or modular lessons, options which were implemented to assert non-stoppage of schooling. This continuation of school opening is done, rather than halt actual school attendance, in order to salvage the next generation from being relegated to uncertain future for lack of proper education as we know it. Government authorities, policy makers and regulators of public education, with the private educational institutions following suit, have to change tack and strategy in order to meet the demands of the times. The University of San Agustin, while remaining true to its charism and calling, have likewise implemented an online and/or modular curriculum to cater to its clients that was adjusted and fitted to the times while quarantine protocols are imposed and in place.

We, as Seekers of Scholarship, having been nurtured and nourished by the faculties of our Alma Mater, deem it just right and proper to support her wards in this difficult period. We are hereby openly campaigning for funds-raising in support of prospective scholars throughout their college education. We will determine, identify and select indigent but meritorious students who can very well sustain their academic standing even during these trying times.

Who is a scholar? Strictly speaking, that person who is highly educated or has an aptitude for study is a scholar. Thus, anyone can be scholar, be that academically or athletically (said of being in a varsity pool) for as long as he pours his heart and mind into his discipline, and thereby earning great marks for that as determined by the traditional grading system. Whereas, a scholarship is a grant or payment made to support a student’s education, awarded on the basis of academic or other achievement. Some students out there who do not have means for tertiary level are worthy of a chance for a good college education, and we would like to give that opportunity to whoever satisfy the requirements and standards that will be set for them to be considered.

Hence, we seek for your financial support. There won’t be conditional membership prerequisite that will be imposed in order to earn any slot in this scholarship offer. We just want to accord San Agustin the support that it needs for continuous formal education in its sacred grounds and to afford poor but dedicated, determined and deserving students their desire for a high quality formal education from the much-respected University of San Agustin. May this appeal be enough to touch your benevolent heart and walk with us as partners in this endeavor. You may want to refer this campaign also to many of your circle of friends and sphere of influence, we will profoundly appreciate it.

It is the ardent desire of our Founder Tomas Alejan Sajo that the Fraternity and the Sorority practice its Vows of Sacrifice, Loyalty, Obedience and Service for the good of humanity in general and for the resident membership in particular. We constantly remind ourselves of our raison d’etre – our reason to have been cradled by Agustinian precepts and our responsibility as its sons and daughters. Times have changed, and we with time but not on the ways of brotherhood and sisterhood. One notable aspect hasn’t changed, too. The ability of humankind to remain humane, good, gracious and generous amidst all that is happening around us. We truly believe this innate quality borne in every man and woman. The activities we do, whether academic, social, spiritual, philanthropic or anything that promotes our Mission and Vision, are all geared towards our collective living out our SLOS.
