How has the LEGACY of Brod Tom in terms of Sacrifice, Loyalty, Obedience and Service, impacted your life as Brod and Sis?Thank you Uncle Tom for the kick not just a push … for the litany not just a short prayer…. for a rainfall not just a shower…. of reminders telling me to get out of my shell, be my best friend and believe in myself because big things come from small bundles. My gratitude for those afternoon interaction over a bowl of “batchoy”. You did a splendid job in helping me become a “Woman of Substance. ”

Our anniversary is a timely and big reminder to us on the role of our fraternity in our lives as students then and citizens now. I have come to realize that indeed joining a fraternity goes far beyond the initiation, number of paddles you receive, the physical pain and the mental and psychological challenges. More important it is the inculcation in our minds of the following values: discipline, respect for others, owning your responsibility and aiming to be a leader. I believe that we are who we are today largely because of Brod Tom. A very happy anniversary to our Brods and Sis.

What SLOS means to me.
Service means to me as service to others not self-service. Loyalty is a time-honored, tested through fire and rain, this is an unchanging constant till kingdom come. Obedience. I hardly am involved with but with the legacy bequethed by Brod Tom. “Yes Ma’am”, “Yes Sir”, “Amen” became easier to fulfill. Through time obedience softened my conduct with the elders and other officials at work. Sacrifice. It is a self-explanatory bottom line; pain begets joy; failure begets success.
The LEGACY lives on and on…

The fact that Brod Tomas Alejan Sajo founded the SIGMA CHI FRATERNITY and the MU SIGMA PHI SORORITY is more than enough legacy that we who are members of both organizations as well as his family can truly be proud of and be grateful for. May this precious legacy be cherished and treasured forever

Brod Tom Sajo, being at the helm and founder of the SIGMA CHI Fraternity and MU SIGMA PHI Sorority had created a family bound by friendship, mutual support, solidary and sisterhood/brotherhood. Following his legacy, all brothers and sisters strive to be good leaders, supporters and motivators.
Joining the sorority is one of the best decisions I made during my college life. I was mentored and supported by Sis Sarah Severino, who until the present, has given me genuine friendship, support and unconditional love throughout; helped me grow; had always looked at my best interest at heart and stood by me during the hardest times. I had developed strengths and traits of offering genuine friendship, support and the importance of helping others. I had great respect for Sis Sarah’s unwavering support and through her, Brod Tom’s legacy transcends.

Brod Tom’s role in my life was an evolving one. During my college days, I was an idealist and I looked up to him as the distinguished founder of the SIGMA CHI Fraternity and the MU SIGMA PHI Sorority who was held in high esteem for his noble vision of academic excellence and spiritual refinement for the fraternity brothers and sorority sisters. I had very limited interaction with him; I just admired him from afar.. Read More

Our founder Brod Tomas Alejan Sajo has given us MU SIGMA PHIANS a unique quality of sisterhood- merits on scholarship and purity. He has bequeathed to us a purpose-driven life to give dignity and honor to the Augustinian charism of academic excellence and spiritual refinement.
As a MU SIGMA PHIAN i consider myself thankful for the privilege to belong to this respected group. Through the years i pursued a life to be of service to our community embracing the values of sacrifice, loyalty, obedience and service.
“Brod Tom’s very personal legacy to me is his welcoming presence, warm personality and wisdom-filled eloquence, characteristics that I have been trying to emulate but admittedly still fall short of. I was witness to and a lucky beneficiary of the admirable traits of Brod Tom. He lived Simply – he did not flaunt material things in words and deeds and even in the way he dressed. He lived Lovingly, so much so that even if he had a family to take care of, he always tried to be there for brods and sis. He lived as an Offering for us to follow – illness and old age did not stop him from attending weddings, wakes or what-have-we of brods and sis. He lived Successfully – we know him as an achiever in several fields of endeavors.
Brod Tom is truly someone we can be proud of as founder, father and friend. In the latter years of his life, he showed us what could really make the Fraternity and Sorority last, relationship-wise: to accept and forgive one another. He gave me that. He gave credence to our Vows in a practical, humane and profound way. Long live his memory and his legacy. ”

“My successes in life I greatly owe to my good training in school. Joining the Mu Sigma Phi Sorority cemented further that burning desire to be of service to my fellowmen. Brod Tom’s legacy of Service, Obedience, Loyalty and Sacrifice have been so ingrained in my system that government service of 42 years was greatly appreciated in my Province of Antique as Head of the Philippine Information Agency. I can say, I touched lives, been a blessing to others and helped change the face of working in government in some ways”

I was a naive, poor “promdi” girl when I enrolled at the University of San Agustin and Sis Cristina Lorca Bibanco-Rosal invited me to join the sorority which she called an “Organization of Leaders and Scholars”. I was honored because I knew I was chosen from the Dean’s List. Being with the group made me feel accepted for who I am and I was treated special with skills. In my 2nd year in college I was made to run for JCC Secretary in the Commerce Department to represent our group and from then on my name was viable for every election and organization. My election as MIS pushed me harder. It was tough being a working student. I needed to balance school work and extra-curricular activities, and I had to perform well. Being a competent leader and believing in one’s capabilities are the best legacy Brod Tom has taught me. He never considered me less capable when I half-heartedly accepted the MIS position in time for the IS THIS REALLY THE DATE ?Silver Anniversary Celebration in 1989, the first grand celebration of the Fraternity/Sorority after the revival. My training with the group has greatly molded me into what I am today. To Brod Tom, I salute you! You changed lives.

“When I graduated with honors in elementary and secondary education, I erringly acted as if I were a person of power. In fact having gotten the top 14th rank among the Timawa scholars of the Iloilo City government in 1964, I enrolled at the University of San Agustin College of Commerce thinking that when I become a CPA I can easily get rich. I also joined the ROTC Officers Corps with the goal of becoming the top commander which I eventually attained. After hearing that the founder of the SIGMA CHI FRATERNITY is a CPA-lawyer, I did not waste any moment and immediately joined the initiation with the thought that Atty. Tomas Sajo can lead me to reaching my dream. However, as the years went by, I witnessed and came to admire and love his modeling of simplicity and gentleness in fulfilling his visions and missions. This is the legacy of Brod Tomas Alejan Sajo that has inspired me the most and which I faithfully apply in my present life – in my family and vocation. With the guidance of God, I am now a bishop and a humble multiplier of the legacy.”

“Brod Tom was my Professor in Accounting when I was recruited to the Mu Sigma Phi Sorority. I had to do good in his class to impress him. And impress him I did, so much more when I was taken in as a Sister. He made me proud but prouder when he made me a recipient of his Golden Vintage Award in recognition of my dedicated Public Service and integrity as member of the Judiciary. We were a bit lost when he left us but not for long…his legacy in our hearts lives on. In recognition and appreciation thereof, the SCA was created to keep the fire burning. Brod Tom has that impact. He will always be remembered as the man who FOUND the Sigma Chi Fraternity and the Mu Sigma Phi Sorority. He will forever remain in every bother’s and sister’s heart. BROD thank you for touching my life.”

Brod Tom was like a father to me. The time and love he shared with me were proof that I was precious in his heart. As what he did with our other brothers and sisters, he consistently encouraged me to excel and unabashedly showed his pride in my humble achievements thus aspiring me to aim higher. I fondly remember that after I left Iloilo, whenever he would meet people that I know, he would never forget to ask them to extend to me his warm regards.
I also called him Uncle Tom, my mentor. When I took up a masteral degree in management/public management and was confronted with a rather bothersome legal issue, I consulted him and with his guidance I easily overcame my fear.
I miss Brod Tom. His spirit is still very much alive in me. His legacy of love and kindness has greatly influenced me and has greatly contributed to my being what I am now. I am so grateful.

I live in New Zealand since March 2010 and it has been a fruitful six plus years. Coming here was not a joke especially when we started planning of applying Expression of Interest as Work Visa. I know it is like a green pasture for everyone but like what Brod Tom had gone through of putting up SIGMA CHI & MU SIGMA PHI- it took up a lot of Sacrifice, Loyalty, Obedience and Service, the ultimate recipe for any success, the guiding principles of our beloved SIGMA CHI and MU SIGMA PHI.. Our anniversary celebration this year has become more relevant as it is happening amidst the recent appalling fatality of a neophyte in a fraternity hazing. Leaders of these fraternities hypocritically denounce violence and cruelty but sadly, their actions speak otherwise.. Read More

Perhaps I can better describe the impact of Brod Tom’s legacy to my chosen career for almost 40 years. Going up the ladder in banking requires sacrifice- a lot of sacrifices. It did happen to my career. In many occasions I had to experience the by-products of promotions- tobe away from home and family not considering the carrying costs. Despite these odds, the love for work and setting up my personal goals were gradually internalized through sacrifice and became my way of life. My loyalty to the company I served was real. I spent my whole working career in the banking industry without reservation.
Brod Tom was an instrument in inculcating the many principles and values in my mind. I learned to become humble by rendering service to others thru ministries.

“Empowering women was one of the hidden forces in Brod Tom’s desire in establishing the MU SIGMA PHI Sorority, his noble intention of developing capabilities in its membership, through Spiritual Refinement and Academic Excellence.
In the past, in my quest for the purpose of my life – to serve God and humanity, my spirit was always inclined to look for opportunities where I could be an agent for change for the betterment of my fellowmen. Teaching/ imparting knowledge, moulding the youth so in turn they will be promoters of society’s transformation was a lodestone that has always attracted my heart to pursue this personal goal. And what path is better to tread than the Path of Service!”
