“Make excellence as your habit” was probably the dictum of Dr. Tomas Alejan Sajo, our great founder who had accomplished a long list of extraordinary achievements during his lifetime.

Brod Tom, a distinguished member in the academic echelon, earned his Masters and Doctorate degrees in Public Administration from the University of the Philippines, Diliman. He completed the Academic Requirements for Doctor of Philosophy, Major in Educational Administration at the University of San Agustin, Iloilo City.

His long years of active involvement in the field of education had put him into various academic and administrative positions. The longest of which was being Professor V of the College of Management at the University of the Philippines, Visayas.

Aside from his accomplishments as an educator, he was also a recipient of various honors and awards, among which are: Professorial Chair, Robert S. Benedicto Professor for Development Administration; Centennial Awards for Education, Assumption Centennial Jubilee Celebration, Religious of the Assumption, San Lorenzo, Makati; Rotary Foundation Group Exchange Scholar, District 385, Philippines to District 114, England, 1973 and undoubtedly, the greatest of all his achievements was being the Founder of SIGMA CHI Fraternity and MU SIGMA PHI Sorority 1961-1962, the first Greek-letter fraternity and sorority recognized by the University of San Agustin.

In addition, he also authored a number of management books that are still used as practical reference materials by university students. Local Government Units (LGU) and Local Chief Executives have also benefitted from his books as these are used in managing local governments and fiscal processes and documents.

It is also worthy to mention the people he had worked with who can attest to his devotion and love for his job as an educator and his strong involvement in his community as well. His former students whom he had helped to become successful in their own fields as managers and outstanding public servants have only good things to say about him. Notwithstanding his accomplishments, he was always described as unassuming, charitable, and compassionate, especially to those less-privileged members of our society.

Brod Tom might have been an achiever by nature, but his family was always at the top of his priorities. His great love for his family was unquestionable. Nothing had brought him more peace and contentment in his life than simply being a good husband and father. On the whole, Dr. Tomas Alejan Sajo was, and will always be, an epitome of good leadership and spiritual values. His love of family, community, and above all, God and country, will continue to inspire us today, tomorrow, and forever.
