Seekers of Scholarship

The meaning of the SIGMA CHI, as explained by founder Tomas Alejan Sajo, is Seekers of Scholarship. As such, it fulfills its duty to its members in aiming for scholarly pursuits through academic excellence that merit the earning of scholarship privileges from different sponsoring entities; and also it strives to attract would-be members into our ranks who believe in our causes and who may also benefit from the scholarship that we offer.

Merits on Scholarship and Purity

Defining women - they think like a queen and are not afraid to fail. They exude greatness, persistence, open-mindedness and a clear vision. They bring out the best of the Sorority sister. Some lead by example and some lead by encouraging others. Still, some part of her inner strength remains intangible, indefinable.

The Founder

Dr. Tomas Alejan Sajo, a distinguished member in the academic echelon, was a Doctor in Public Administration, U.P. Diliman. He has completed the Academic Requirements for Doctor of Philosophy, Major in Educational Administration at the University of San Agustin, Iloilo City, and was a Master of Public Administration from U.P. Manila.

Senior Council of Advisers

The Senior Council of Advisers is our voice in this executive, legislative and judicial body called into fusion by heir-to-the-Founder Brod Cezar Ledesma Tugday as the implementing-and-regulating arm and policy-and-decision-making group of the SIGMA CHI and the MU SIGMA PHI in so far as the absence of the resident organization is concerned. The SCA functions in the meantime in lieu of the resident officers.

Year Founded

The SIGMA CHI Fraternity and the MU SIGMA PHI Sorority existed since time immemorial but both were respectively formally founded on August 19, 1961 and September 27, 1962 at the University of San Agustin, Iloilo City, Philippines by Dr. Tomas Alejan Sajo, LlB, CPA, PhD.

Years in Existence

We are growing old and getting younger at the same time, but also going strong nevertheless. With profound gratitude, we look back with fondness the sixty years of our nesting (2021-22) at the University of San Agustin, so that while we fly to many horizons, and we look forward to more years of togetherness in the cradle of our beloved alma mater.

Charter Members

The cliché “birds of the same feather flock together” seems to be the order of the day when honor students, campus leaders, school organ journalists, debaters and who’s who among the crème a la crème of the early 1960s USA campus figures broke common grounds to comprise the founding members of the fledgling sibling frasority SIGMA CHI and MU SIGMA PHI.

SIGMA CHI Members

492 from amongst so many men of San Agustin, we spread in different professions and fields of endeavor; engage in worthy causes and pursuits; and contribute to the good of our generation, the advancement of society and the improvement of each our own individual and communal lives.

MU SIGMA PHI Members

501 women of substance, significance and elegance who created a niche and name for ourselves in various remarkable disciplines and areas of excellence, even with just ordinary lives but living extra-ordinarily for our personal sake, for our families and for the greater humanity.

Sibling Members

Through the years, the membership list registered quite a number of blood brothers and sisters who joined the roster of our sibling group, all 44 of them, mostly two from each family. There are only four families, however, who managed to have three of their members in our ranks.

Becoming a Member

Adjudged as one of the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations in 2006 in award ceremonies in Malacañang Palace, the SIGMA CHI-MU SIGMA PHI tandem as a student organization has also a string of Most Outstanding Campus Organization awards on its belt given by the University of San Agustin Office for Student Affairs.
